Illustrated Coffee Drinks

[caffe latte] [cappuccino]

Lokesh Dhakar illustrates the (sometimes rather arbitrary and picayune) difference between the different coffee drinks for those who think of their caffeine as some kind of toy instead of, as I freely cop to for myself, a Genuine Medical Need.

Unlike some bean freaks, I’ve got nothing against the Cult of Foam. I just like the taste of straight-up black coffee. Gimme that stuff, that funk, that stuff, that funky stuff. I don’t even have milk or cream (or non-dairy creamer) in the house. The only reason I even have sugar here is because I sometimes have guests who require capirinhas, and I would be remiss were I not to be able to host them appropriately.

Look, I’m of the opinion that we need more snobs in this world, not less. If you want to snob out about knowing every kind of coffee toy that the green box on the corner can spit out at you, then hey, get all up in that fetish, and own it like you wrote the book on it. (Hell, write the book on it. You know there’s people who’ll buy it.) But if we go somewhere, especially in a morning hour, and I can’t get myself a decent straight-up espresso or “Americano,” then someone might have to die.
